At those rates you bet I'll be getting into SAP asap!
I paid more than 20k for my education and I get nowhere near that amount. Engineering is a scam avoid!. Employers prefer non-canadians as they are cheaper (they only really want the passport) and the government is making it a piece of cake for anyone to get a job here. There are also no certifications or barriers whatsoever.
I've seen SAP people at work and it is a peice of cake compared to most jobs. Folks getting into SAP are from all different backgrounds just to show you how easy it is.

Have you ever had any dealings with SI Systems? I enrolled back in 2007 and had a run in with them in 2009/2010 they later blacklisted me saying I was cynical. I can honestly say that my moods can be drastically affected when I can't make ends meet and this is greatly complicated by my medical condition as I have to purchase some rather expensive medication in order to supplement my hormone levels. In explaining this to SI systems they still retained my blacklist. I just do not know what to do, but apparently not only I am blacklisted but others who I have interviewed with have also been blacklisted by SI. A friend of mine at Husky Energy refuses to use them as headhunters because of their performance with several contractors they work with in terms of managing them and getting jobs.

I really do not know what to do, if this is the kind of attitude when people have medical conditions in the Head Hunting community I will never get employed again. I have strived to scrape up enough funds to manage my condition but frankly there really is no tolerance.

As a SAP professional, I disagree... Certification and no experience = FAIL.

Certification with experience will give you an edge over those with experience but no certification.

There is a large pool of experienced professionals in both ERP areas and it is getting more competitive.

Tom,

Are the ceiling rates for each category under TBIPS available to the general public?

Or are these rates only available to federal employees and consulting firms?

Thanks.

Thanks for the comments Dave. I definitly agree with your assessment about coming ip in the middle. My firm is a mid-range IT shop as well and the transaction VS strategic recruit for us really depends on the location and the skill set. There are some jobs where there is a surplus of candidates and others where there is a shortage. The recruit can really depend on who needs who more for that specific opportunity.

That is a faily common concern for consultants in this day and age. Sometimes there is no way to get around those hard to find requirements. Odds are the client likely has someone in mind who fights the bill which is why the requirements don't seem to jive together. It's also not uncomming to see a requirement come out for a level 2 resource but asking for 10+ years experience. The price for this resource and the required skills don't match up. I think some clients are un-educated in the sense of putting out a wish list that is almost un-matchable.

Hey Tom, just checked out your two-blog series here and I think you've differentiated these two types of recruitment exactly. It's probably worth noting that if you're recruiting for real temp work (office, reception, data entry, etc.) then it needs to be transactional and there's no way you're going to do executive recruitment with a transactional approach.

I've spent the past 7 years somewhere in the middle with a focus on mid-range IT contract work. My experience there has taught me that every firm talks a strategic game and usually reverts to a numbers game depending on the market, overall busy-ness and whatever other factor affects them. The lack of consistency in that area really makes it a challenge to differentiate one's self in the market or increase the credibility of recruitment firms in general. It's also what makes that "middle ground" the most interesting, I think.

Thanks for the posts!

I don't do vlogging, nor do I follow much (any) video blogs, but that's just me - I prefer reading well sourced posts where I can easily do further investigation (plus I can't listen to a video at work). Nonetheless, it probably could be a very good tool. There certainly are a lot of sites that get a lot out of it.

If you try it, I promise to hook up the head phones and give it a listen.
